Madara Rider, 8th century: one of Bulgaria's symbols
Madara Rider

Many west-Europeans do not know where Bulgaria on the map is. Neither they know anything about the country. All they have is dark associations with the term “Eastern Europe”. I am happy you are going through this web site. This means you are about to learn more and maybe change your idea about Bulgaria. Before we go on, I would like to encourage you to register in the site if you find this information useful. You are also welcome to post your questions in the discussion forum.

Bulgaria is a small country in south-east Europe. It has a little bit more than 7.5 mil. Inhabitants and is not much smaller than England. The capital city is Sofia with 1.3 mil. Inhabitants. You will find the article about Bulgaria on Wikipedia here.

Food in Bulgaria is very delicious. It seems to me that on the Balkans, where many peoples mixed, people learned the best from the cosine of their neighbors. Bulgarians eat a lot of bread, vegetables, yoghurt, and feta cheese. It is a pity but outside the areas around the coast of the Black Sea you want find much fish.
Lonely Planet has a nice guide about Bulgaria which I would like to recommend. In our picture gallery you will find some photos of Bulgaria. For more photos go to this site.
